Painting: Jewish Quarter on Purim by Barbara Israel Bortniker

The streets of the Jewish Quarter in the Old City of Jerusalem, called “The Rovah,” are always crowded with worshippers, residents, and tourists from around the world. But the day the artist happened to be there, with easel and painting supplies, was Purim a raucous and joyous Jewish holiday, celebrated with costumes, parties, drinking, and gifts.

In the artist’s words, "As I walked around the Rovah that day, I searched for the perfect location to portray Jerusalem of the 21st Ct: the paradox of ancient and modern, pious and sometimes profane, proud but ever watchful, even vulnerable. I found my perfect spot in the courtyard opposite the “Hurva Synagogue”, also known as the Rambam Synagogue."

Now, you can bring this beautiful painting to your home printed on 24" x 36" archival, 100% rag watercolor paper, numbered and hand-signed by the artist.
